Digital Realty Launches “Direct Link Colo” Solution Enabling Customers to Directly Connect to IBM Cloud

New offering delivers one of the lowest latency hybrid cloud solutions in the data center industry.

SAN FRANCISCO, December 3, 2015 – Digital Realty (NYSE: DLR), a leading global provider of data center solutions, today introduced Direct Link Colo, a solution that connects customers in Digital Realty data centers directly to IBM Cloud. With Direct Link Colo, customers in Digital Realty data centers gain access to incredible network performance, including latency as low as 1.5 milliseconds—one of the lowest latencies for a hybrid cloud solution in the industry.

IBM Cloud data centers are collocated at Digital Realty’s hub locations in the Asia Pacific region, Europe and North America, with direct dark fiber connections between them. According to Chris Sharp, Chief Technology Officer at Digital Realty:

“By eliminating the role of the public Internet or the need for costly private networks, Direct Link Colo enables customers and partners to completely control access to their infrastructure and services, the speed of their connection to the IBM Cloud, and how the data is routed.”

With Direct Link Colo, there are no third-party carriers involved, no additional electronics or steps in the middle, and links are available at 1 GigE or 10 GigE speeds. By directly linking Digital Realty data centers to SoftLayer’s modular global cloud infrastructure platform, Direct Link Colo delivers:

  • Latency under 1.5 milliseconds, necessary for scaling and near real-time synchronization between hybrid cloud and collocation solutions
  • Fast deployment and extension of customer solutions
  • Dramatically reduced power costs due to less physical equipment
  • Room to grow on a global scale with a trusted partner
