Asia Pacific market offers “big opportunities and fresh challenges”

I am particularly excited to take the reins as Managing Director of Digital Realty Asia Pacific. This rapidly evolving region offers both fresh challenges and big opportunities, and I am eager to get to work.

I was attracted to Digital Realty for a number of reasons. The company’s global footprint, high-quality solutions and proven operating track record give it significant competitive advantages. At the same time, its diverse client base provides an opportunity to work with organisations across a wide variety of industry sectors.

During the past four years, Digital Realty Asia Pacific has become the preeminent data centre solution provider in the region with a footprint of over one million square feet of existing and committed space. I am now determined to build on that achievement.

Asia Pacific represents a key growth centre for our company. With a strong infrastructure base spanning Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and Australia, our attention remains focused on increasing our capabilities and ensuring the ongoing delivery of first-class customer service.

Across the region, there are a number of key forces which are driving business. The rise of cloud computing is both changing the game for our customers and shaping the offerings we are bringing to market. The opportunities the cloud brings are huge. Indeed, Gartner estimates that public cloud services alone will be worth $US7.4 billion in the Asia Pacific and Japan region this year.

Other key technology trends having an impact across the region include social, mobile,, big data, and the rapidly emerging Internet of Things (IoT). Each of these promise big benefits for business while also highlighting the need for a robust and agile underlying data centre infrastructure.

During my first 90 days, I will be focused on visiting each of our markets across the region. I plan to meet with both our employees and clients and discuss with them our priorities and plans for the next five years.

While it’s always hard to predict the future, I am confident Digital Realty will maintain its industry-leading position and continue to grow its data centre footprint across Asia Pacific. By listening closely to our customers, we will ensure our investments continue to meet their strategic needs.

By way of a personal introduction, during my career I have worked with a range of organisations, from start-ups to large multinational and not-for-profit corporations. My areas of focus have included technology, strategy, operations, business design, corporate development, and venture financing.

Prior to joining Digital Realty, I was Head of IT Services at Colt Technology Services in London. Before that I was Senior Vice President of Innovation for Reed Elsevier and Director of Portfolio Innovation for the BT Group, also in London.

I look forward to meeting with staff and customers throughout the region over the coming weeks and gaining a clearer understanding of their requirements and goals. Working together, I believe we can assist the Asia Pacific region in its journey to becoming the powerhouse of the global economy.
