Chicago's digital renaissance
In the heart of Chicago, Digital Cermak isn’t just enhancing the digital landscape; it's redefining it.

As we continue to modernize 350 E. Cermak, we’re building a next-generation facility just across the street at 330 E. Cermak. Powered by clean energy and built with advanced efficiency and sustainability features, the site delivers the latest in responsible data center design and urban integration.
Once complete, 330 E. Cermak is projected to generate $6–10 million in annual real estate taxes—funding Chicago Public Schools, infrastructure upgrades, and essential services
including police, fire, and healthcare. 24/7 on-site security and exterior cameras will help create a safer environment for the neighborhood.
Construction of 330 E. Cermak is expected to generate nearly $350 million in economic activity in the community—supporting over 1,100 union and construction jobs.
Once operational, the facility will create approximately 200 permanent jobs and contribute more than $3.3 billion to Chicago’s economy over 20 years. That impact includes an estimated $6–10 million in annual real estate taxes, helping fund Chicago public schools, local infrastructure, and vital community services locally and in the greater Chicago metro.

How is Digital Realty improving its facilities at 350 E. Cermak?
We focus on environmental stewardship and operational efficiencies, with regular review and upgrades to both equipment and procedures, including noise reduction and emissions controls that meet or exceed regulatory standards.
In the past three months, we have completed projects to reduce noise and improve air quality from our backup generators. These include moving the generators indoors and adding advanced soundproofing and emission-control systems to lessen their impact on the surrounding neighborhood.
What are the plans for the new data center at 330 E. Cermak?
Demand for digital services continues to grow and we cannot expand the historic 120+ year-old Digital Cermak facility, so we are converting a vacant lot next door into a new, state-of-the-art facility to support Chicago’s technology needs for the next century.
- Uninterruptible power: This facility will be equipped with redundant power supplies that ensure a continuous supply of power no matter what is happening outside or across the region. This is vital for maintaining critical services like banking and healthcare records management that need to be accessible 24/7.
- Robust design for seamless integration: The facility will place generators on the opposite end from residential housing, ensuring minimal noise reaches nearby homes. Additionally, these generators will be enclosed with advanced sound insulation to make them quieter than an average city street.
- Responsible by design: Built to meet leading global sustainability standards, use energy and water responsibly, and source energy from 100% clean sources.
What economic impact will 330 E. Cermak have on Chicago?
