Recapping Another Great Year at International Telecoms Week—ITW 2016

May 26, 2016  |  Written by Jessica Smith, Sr. Marketing Manager, Events

A couple of weeks ago, Digital Realty | Telx was a prime sponsor at International Telecoms Week (ITW) in Chicago. ITW, now in its 9th year, brings together key players in the global telecom community and serves as a valuable networking opportunity. It’s certainly a staple on our events calendar year after year.

With numerous breakfasts, lunches, cocktail receptions, conference sessions, and meetings, ITW was once again the place to be for anyone and everyone involved in telecom.

This year, ITW brought over 6,000 delegates from over 2,000 companies and nearly 150 countries to Chicago to talk telecoms. Fortunately, we had the opportunity to connect with as many of those attendees as we could in our meeting suite and at our Monday night cocktail reception. Thanks to all who attended—it was great seeing such a large turnout for our reception!

Of course, there’s more to ITW than cocktails and Cubs games. It’s also a tremendous networking experience and a time to learn from some of the best and brightest in the industry.

A key topic of conversation at ITW that's already affecting our business is the growing bandwidth needs of the world. From driverless cars to connected washing machines to Big Data, the technology of tomorrow is driving enormous growth in the amount of data we transmit and receive every day. Supporting that bandwidth and maintaining a seamless experience for end users is going to take continued investment in the world’s telecom infrastructure, something we’re already a part of here at Digital Realty | Telx.

Security was also a big topic at ITW. With more and more connected devices, security is more of a concern every day. And yet, certain cloud solutions centered on security are enabling companies to move more data to the cloud and still have peace of mind. That's a far cry from cloud migrations of days past where security was a prime inhibitor of companies investing in cloud computing. That just goes to show how much can change in an industry over the course of a few years. All in all, the conversations we had at ITW were enlightening and fun!

Thanks again to the ITW team for a great event connecting our team to the global telecoms ecosystem. We’re already looking forward to seeing you all again in 2017!
