The third annual MarketplaceLIVE in New York City is just one week away. This year, two keynotes join us on the main stage of the New York TimesCenter to leave us motivated and inspired by technology and the world around us both online and offline. The resumes of both David Pogue and Douglas Merrill demonstrate that hard work, knowledge, and a healthy amount of enthusiasm towards life, culture, and creativity will allow those with the right passion to strive- no matter the environment.
Douglas Merrill, Co-Founder and CEO of ZestFinance.com; Former CIO of Google
Douglas Merrill, simply put, championed innovation at one of the world's most innovative companies. Merrill draws on real world experience to help companies build their own thriving, strategic, and sustainable cultures of creativity.
As the former CIO and VP of Engineering at Google, Merrill ran several high profile projects including Google Checkout which is now a multi-billion dollar business. Informed, passionate and brilliantly counter-intuitive, Merrill now helps companies around the world learn how to build their own sustainable cultures of innovation. As his latest success, Merrill brings us ZestFinance, a Big Data fueled underwriting and short-term loan service in which the team, that according to ZestFinance.com, is “all working together to re-invent underwriting and make more credit available to the people who need it most”.
Merrill has also served as COO of New Music at EMI Group, and as VP of Infrastructure and HR Strategy at Charles Schwab. In academia, he was an Information Scientist at the RAND Corporation. He holds a Ph.D. in cognitive science from Princeton and is the author of Getting Organized in the Google Era: How to Get Stuff Out of Your Head, Find It When You Need It, and Get It Done Right.
David Pogue, Founder, YahooTech.com; Host of NOVA ScienceNow
After 13 years as the weekly personal technology columnist for The New York Times, David Pogue instated himself as the founder of Yahoo Tech. Pogue boasts many interesting distinctions such as: host of NOVA ScienceNow, winner of two Emmys, a Loeb Award for journalism, an honorary doctorate in music, and is the writer or co-writer of seven book in the For Dummies series.
Pogue graduated summa cum laude from Yale in 1985 with distinction in music, then spent ten years conducting and arranging Broadway musicals in New York. He has been profiled on 48 Hours and 60 Minutes. Without giving too much away- we would not be surprised if Pogue combined his many talents to deliver a thought-provoking and entertaining keynote for our audience.
We chose David Pogue and Douglas Merrill as our keynotes with the intention to leave our audience mentally fulfilled and with a sense of drive and ambition they may not have had walking into the TimesCenter that morning. We are so excited to see what the day has in store for us and hope to see you June 5th.
