How Can the Cloud Help Your Business?

Discussions of the benefits of the cloud are hard not to be a part of these days. But in those types of discussions, it can be hard to separate fact from fiction. Can the cloud really help my business become more efficient? Will it actually save me money? Questions like these and more abound, and they’re actually quite fair to ask.
Telx data centers are enabling cloud services, but even we can’t overstate the potential impact of the cloud on businesses of all sizes. So instead of talking generally about what the cloud may be able to do for your business, we thought we’d look at some real research and individual use cases to show you exactly what the cloud can do for you. Here are a few of the most important highlights:
The cloud can help you reorganize your business: According to a recent report by The Economist Intelligence Unit (as reported by Forbes), the cloud “is helping to reorganize businesses, from hierarchies to networks.” As Forbes notes, “organizations are functioning as self-directed teams, and cloud offers the ability to secure any and all resources as needed, without the need to clear decisions through a central authority.” That sort of hierarchy can benefit businesses of all sizes, and is enabled directly by the cloud.
Leaders in the cloud are gaining a competitive advantage over slow adopters: A new report by IBM finds that pacesetters—the broadest adopters—in the cloud are gaining a competitive advantage over those who are slower to adopt. Pacesetters are 79% more likely to use the cloud to locate and leverage expertise anywhere in the ecosystem, 136% more likely to use the cloud to reinvent customer relationships, and 170% more likely to use cloud-based analytics extensively to derive insights. Those companies that use the cloud widely are starting to look much more innovative than those that don’t.
The cloud brings real cost savings and profit gains: Rackspace, in conjunction with the Manchester Business School and Vanson Bourne, surveyed 1,300 companies in the U.K. and U.S. in 2013. Their findings? 88 percent of cloud users pointed to cost savings, and 56 percent agreed that cloud services have helped them boost profits. What’s more, 60 percent of respondents said cloud computing has given them more time to focus on strategy and innovation. With cost savings in the cloud, the proof is in the numbers.
Moving to the cloud can make your business more agile: The cloud enables ability both on the front end and behind the scenes. Whether that means allowing users to simply request more storage or processing power instead of waiting until more infrastructure hardware is procured, or assisting with disaster recovery when other facilities go down, the cloud can help make your business more agile than ever before.
