Discussing Data Center Optimization at #GartnerDC
December 2, 2014 | Written by
Are you maximizing the capacity in your existing data centers? Are you planning a new data center, and want to make sure you are optimizing your design?
You might be leaving some capacity on the table if you’re not considering four key areas for data center optimization.
Join me at this week’s Gartner Data Center, Infrastructure & Operations Management Conference at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas where I’ll share some best practices that we’ve gathered from our 10+ years of experience building and operating data centers – to date, more than 300 megawatts globally.
- We’ll discuss optimization techniques for new data center designs that might yield more capacity than you might have originally thought possible.
- If you’re operating in a legacy-constrained data center, you will see how equipment upgrades and replacements won’t just bring you efficiency savings and increased reliability, but can also buy you increased capacity too. I’ll share a case study on how we designed around significant constraints to unlock additional capacity in an existing data center.
- It wouldn’t be a data center presentation without mention of the Cloud – am I right?! Focused use of Cloud resources can also contribute to optimizing your data center investment and delaying or avoiding costly capital upgrades.
- If you are contemplating consolidation of multiple data centers, have you considered how disparate locations for your equipment might help to optimize your investment? By focusing on location dependency, you might discover opportunities to save by virtualizing your data center using dark or lit services to connect different physical locations.
I’m looking forward to the opportunity to lead this conversation on December 4th at 3pm in Veronese 2401B. Hope to see you there, but if you’re not able to attend, you can always follow the conference conversation on Twitter via #GartnerDC.
