PowerVU Energy Monitoring Software (PUE)
Data Center Solutions
Understanding the power usage of your data center and its PUE are critical components for both your long term planning and assessing the on-going efficiency of your data center performance. Because we recognize the essential nature of this information we have developed PowerVU software. This easy to use monitoring and measurement software provides you with graphical displays of your utility input and UPS output over user specified timeframes to enable you to develop a comprehensive understanding of your power usage. This information is a key component in evaluating the available capacity of your existing data center as well as providing important modeling data for future budgeting and data center planning.
Enhancing Your Metering Capability
Managing your energy use is the most critical element of data center operations today. To augment your monitoring and metering abilities, every Digital Realty Turn-Key Datacenter® features metered power and PowerVU software. With PowerVU you are able to track and display your energy usage by each metered component to view and track your actual power use in kW/hr as well as your energy demand.
Measuring Your PUE
Power Utilization Efficiency (PUE) is the industry standard for expressing data center energy efficiency. With PowerVU software you now have a graphical display of both your PUE and its’ two determinate components:
- Utility Input
- UPS Output
Through this capability you are able to monitor the efficiency of your data center daily, monthly and annually. One of the primary benefits of this capability is that you are able to use empirical data to more effectively plan and budget for your energy usage.
Analyzing Cause and Effect
The efficiency of your data center, as measured by your PUE, can be impacted by a number of factors. Even cleaning the roof of your facility may help improve it's energy efficiency. By enabling you to analyze usage down to the component level PowerVU provides you with the ability to manage and assess the impact of modifications that you make to your data center to determine their impact on your energy usage.
